Learning Objectives:

  • Understand microbial genomics and its role in public health and biotechnology
  • Learn how NGS generates raw sequencing data
  • Interpret quality metrics and understand the need for quality control

Expected Outcomes:

  • Distinguish between whole-genome sequencing and other omics approaches
  • Identify key components of a FASTQ file
  • Explain why quality control and read trimming are essential

Speaker Biography:

Prof. Dr. Abouelhoda earned his Ph.D. with highest honors from the University of Ulm, Germany, and holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees with distinction from Cairo University. Currently a Full Professor in Egypt and Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Saudi Arabia. Recognized as one of the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University in 2024, with over 7,700 citations in clinical genomics and bioinformatics.
